Laveen Economic Development

I know, I know, I know...... I've teased about this before. But this time, I mean it. We are moving forward with a committee to help guide economic development in our Village. Erika Keenan and I have begun working with the City, through our planner Jacob Zonn, and the various community representative groups, and it looks like we are making significant progress.

Why, you may ask, would we want to take on such a challenging project? Because we as residents need to step up and let the rest of the world know what Laveen is all about and what we expect to see out of the inevitable growth the future will bring. If you scroll back through past blog posts, you will see that this has been my primary concern for the community, hence all of the attention that I've given the freeway planning process. Also, I've realized that no one else is nearly as well prepared or intent to promote Laveen's harmonious growth than us, the residents of Laveen.

So please let me know if you are interested in participating in this discussion. Otherwise, I offer you at least the anticipation of big news in the near future (near future, btw, is a relative term, as we have yet to work through all the community groups and the city to create this group). So please stay tuned.

All laveen residents thank you for your time in bettering our community. I know this is a little off topic but what do we have to do to get a large gym anywhere in the area? I am definatly sick of waiting on La fitness who's been lieing to us for over two years now. Thanks for your input...

I can totally sympathize with a crazy work schedule. We haven't yet outlined time expectations of our committee, as this will surely depend somewhat on participation, but send me an email at ptbrennan@gmail.com if you want to be invited to participate. Even if you can't physically be there, I always appreciate the input and will try to keep you in the loop.

Like Rocket, I’m dying have a large gym in this area. I’m an LA fitness club member. I will be thrilled to see them open here. But if another company (as long as they have a pool) opens in Laveen first, I will switch to them immediately. If there’re many people feel the same way, maybe we can do something together and make things happen. Meanwhile, if you want to work out in Laveen, Cesar Chavez HS gym is free. Not sure about Betty Fairfax HS though.

I am with those who have crazy schedules, but will make every effort to contribute when time permits me. Similarly,I am dying for a gym as well, and hope we have one soon in Laveen. I am a member of LA Fitness, but at this stage, any large gym will do for me, so long as it is loacted in our Laveen.

I just found your website and am every excited about the news of the 202. I would like to be involved in your efforts to help Laveen. Also, I am on the board of my HOA, and, FYI, we are starting the process of getting traffic calming islands installed on 55th Ave between Baseline and Southern. To those who are asking about a gym in Laveen, there are plans to build one on 51st and Baseline behind Walgreens. The latest edition of the South Mountain newspaper said that the gym (I think it is LA Fitness, but I can never remember) is under contract and could start building as soon as May--hooray!

Linda, I hope your right about the gym. The last I had heard from another blogger was he contacted the company who owns the site behind walgreens and they told him that LA Fitness postponed construction at least for one more year(that was about a month ago). Some might think thats not a big deal but LA Fitness has been telling me and alot of others they were going to build immediatly for the past three years now. They are very sneeky, I am sick of the lies and the waiting. I just wish somenone would biuld a gym already.

I just came across your blog not too long ago. I have a crazy schedule also but I am interested in contributing. My wife and I have lived here for two and a half years and plan on being here for a quite a while. Laveen is our home.
